I've got to get out of Texas, if only for a little while.
Every moment longer I spend here a small part of my soul flares out into the quiet oblivion. I try and slow the loss with periodic exodus' from this barren land. I've been to explore places like Atlanta, Minneapolis, New York City, Washington DC, Vancouver BC, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles.
But the last time I was in my mountains, in the actual high country my heart calls home was over 4 years ago.
Where do you call home? Not where do you live, but what landscape do you feel breathe, and sigh, and rise to meet you when you return?

Home....I suppose I really feel like home here in Washington. I cant imagine life without the trees and mountains. I hate the rain but couldnt live without it.
ReplyDeleteI call Virginia home. It is where we now live. I've never lived anywhere longer than 6 years, and that was Texas. I know what you mean!
ReplyDeleteCanyon TX has a canyon. I don't know how beautiful it would be this time of year but it wouldn't be far from your home and cost to stay in Canyon or Amarillo isn't very high. Amarillo is about 5 hours from Dallas. The canyon is called Palo Duro Canyon and it has a website. I wish I had more to offer than that but I am not much of a world traveler. There is also a cadillac ranch. Would be some funny pictures! Good luck with your quest.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the mountains - it is definitely where my soul takes a big sigh...
ReplyDeleteBut I'm always, always happy to return to the green fields or snow-swaddled landscape of Iowa.
